Tuesday, December 6, in Brussels, the Sports and Youth Unit of the European Commission’s Directorate General for Education and Culture hosted a seminar on sports and one of the main subjects discussed was the promotion of diplomacy through sports.

The seminar was the result of the work of the High Level Group on Sport Diplomacy, in which Razvan Burleanu, the President of the Romanian Football Federation, is also a member. The purpose of this group is to identify ways by which sports can play a more prominent role in the external policy of the European Union and in promoting the European values.

The seminar was moderated by Julien Zylberstein, UEFA’s adviser in charge with the harmonization of the regulation of UEFA with those of the European Union.

Other topics approached during the debates included the promotion of the values of the European Union in the context of major sports events and the development of an educational sports culture.

The event was attended by over 20 representatives of ministries and sports federations and members of the European Commission.
