Between June 21 and July 8, Romania and Georgia hosted the UEFA Under-21 Championship.

Romania hosted Group B (in Bucharest, at Steaua Stadium and Giulești Stadium) and Group D (in Cluj-Napoca, at Cluj Arena and CFR Cluj Stadium), while Groups A and C were played in Georgia.

Hosts Romania, finalists Spain, Croatia and Ukraine were drawn in the group from Bucharest and France, Italy, Switzerland and Norway played in Cluj-Napoca. Also, two quarter-finals, Spain – Switzerland (2-1) and France – Ukraine (1-3) were played in Romania, at Giulești Stadium and Cluj Arena, as well as the semifinal between Spain and Ukraine (5-1), at Steaua Stadium. In Georgia, Group C matches were be played between champions England, Germany, Czech Republic and Israel, while Group D consisted of Portugal, Netherlands, Belgium and Georgia. Georgia also hosted two quarter-finals, Georgia – Israel (3-4 after penalties) and England – Portugal (1-0), the semi-final Israel – England (0-3) and the final of the competition, won by England, 1-0 against Spain.
