Christoph Daum will have Rudi Verkempinck as assistant coach of Romania's National Football Team.

Verkempinck, 50, signed with the Romanian Football Federation a contract until 2018, just like the new head coach.

Holder of a UEFA PRO license, Verkempinck previously worked as Christoph Daum's assistant with Club Brugge (2011-2012) and (2013-2014).

The Belgian was also head coach for Wervik, Cercle Brugge, KV Mechelen, RAC Gent, RS Waasland, KV Kortrijk, VW Hamme.

"I am happy to join this project. It is a new start both for Romania and for us. I have known Mr. Daum for five years, as we worked together with two clubs. We share the same philosophy and half a word is enough for me to know what he wants. He is my coach, my mentor and my friend, too", Rudi Verkempinck said after signing the contract.

"The name of the national squad's best player should be THE TEAM. This is one of our key missions. And we need to bring the fans closer to the team. We need to be united to achieve our goal: qualifying for the 2018 World Cup!", he stated.

"I have the experience of working with Romanian players, as I coached Dorinel Munteanu and Tibor Selymes at Cercle Brugge. Dorinel was an exemplary professional. He used to be the first to come for the training sessions and the last to leave. That's why I would mention him among the top 10 players I have worked with. Tibor, too, was a very good player. Then, at Al Hilal, I met Mirel Rădoi, a complete football player", Verkempinck added.
